Homemade Oatmeal Recipe With Coconut: Crunchy Healthy Cookies With Oats

oats coconut cookies By now each one of you know I am cookie lover. Yes, my tea time is not complete without cookies. But I am always looking to make biscuits with a healthy twist - no all-purpose flour, of course. Oats is a must-include ingredient in most of my cookie recipes. My cookie recipes use less butter; rather, I prefer to substitute butter with oil, which is little healthier than clarified butter. Milk and curd make great binding agents. Curd is a perfect substitute to eggs. This time, this fiber-rich cereal grain has made a direct entry in my cookie recipe - yea, it is the main ingredient. Crispy, crunchy, and so coconutty!!! I am loving this batch of coconut cookies more than my previous recipes using coconut. Here are a few versions with a slight change of ingredients - oats coconut cookies , wheat coconut cookies , and  atta coconut cookies . Ingredients coconut oats cookies 1 cup- powdered oats 1 cup- dry coconut powder 1/2 cup- atta (wheat flour

How To Make Detox Drink at Home With Himalayan Sea Salt

detox drink There is so much of buzz about detoxification and detox drinks these days. I often make lime water as a detox drink, without adding sugar. Yes, this is how I go about it. This is the best thing to do to cut down your sugar intake. Of course, there are days in a year when you cannot follow your healthy regimen. These are the days when you are holidaying. I am in my sasural (in-law's place) and have had an overload of unhealthy stuff, since there was a big family function here that continued for days and days. Then we got feast invitations from relatives. We have had so many feasts that the word feast now sounds like beast  to me ! Fortunately, feasts are over now and we are getting to eat healthy home-made stuff by my dearest MIL, who is a bundle of talent and has some amazing culinary skills. Now let's come back to my detox drink, because if I start talking about my sasu ma, I will forget the recipe. We have been using fennel or saunf since childhood

No Yeast Whole Meal Bread

oats bread As mentioned earlier, we are not buying bread for over a year, so I have experimented with a few bread recipes on my own. However, this time I wanted to include oats as well to give a healthier twist to our breads. Again, oatmeal does not disappoint. It's such a relief to find the healthiest of grains giving me the best results in bread making. This is a softer bread than my previous bread varieties - no yeast  ragi bread and whole wheat bread  no yeast. To enhance flavor, I have included garlic - so it is garlic wheat-oats bread without yeast. I also added fermented urad dal and oat meal batter, which is optional for this recipe. It was merely an experiment, and I am not sure if it did make any difference to the recipe. Let's turn to the recipe now: Atta Oats Bread Ingredients 1/2 cup- oats 1/2 cup- atta (whole wheat flour) 1/2 tsp- sugar salt as per taste 1/2 tsp- baking soda whey to knead dough (should be soft, but not too sticky) - whe

Oatmeal Kulfi with Almond Butter

oatmeal kulfi Oatmeal kulfi? Surprises? Well, you ought not be, since it is coming from me! Yes, now you already know that I have been experimented with different healthy oatmeal recipes, and this oatmeal dessert is a step in that direction. Yes, it's oats again - the key ingredient in this creamy, thick, and delectable kulfi, though without the addition of cream. Oats has this supreme quality to turn creamy and thick when blended with liquid. This makes it a healthier alternative to cream, which is loaded with calories and gives you no additional health benefits. Rich in fiber, oat powder has become my go-to ingredient for all recipes. I try to include this healthy cereal grain in everything I make or bake these days. Yes, it gives us unmatched health benefits. In fact, I want everyone to turn to using oats and substitute cream with this healthy cereal. Take my words for it - you won't ever remorse the decision. My dear friend Ritu Mendiratta knows it better

If you learn cracked wheat for weight loss recipes, then you are working toward a healthy lifestyle. Even I am a health freak. Here are some broken wheat benefits: Remember, the uncle next door for whom I had baked the suji mango cake ? The 80 +year old is fond of idlis. We came to know about it recently. So one day hubby offered to make idlis for him. This was the right time to make another healthy set of idlis. Yes, I have made daliya idlis many times before. But this time it was different. How? I soaked daliya overnight and next day was able to make super soft idlis. The

Sweet Mango Chutney With Jaggery: Aam Chunda With Gur Powder/Shakkar

Raw mango chutney is loved by one and all. The only thing that stops me from making this sweet and tangy chutney is its sweet part. Yes, it uses a good amount of sweetness. Ideally mango chutney is made with sugar. But I tend to avoid sugar wherever I can. So I have gone ahead with making the raw mango chutney with jaggery/gur. I had bought jaggery from my home town of Patiala and it came in handy for this easy mango chutney recipe with gur. Last year, I had tried the mango chutney taking inspiration from Anita Chahal aunty ji.  I have been trying to avoid making this chutney, since it uses a good amount of sugar/sweetener. Nevertheless I could not stop myself from making mango chutney for the season after Anita Chahal aunty ji posted the raw mango chutney in our food group  Healthy Recipes by Homemakers. My mouth started to water every time I scrolled down the page and came across aunty ji's chutney. The day she had shared raw mango dip was my Savitri Amavasy

How To Make Khakhra: Healthy Snack With Oats

You have heard or tried or tasted Gujarati khakhra, right? I have tried this savory snack with oatmeal. So this makes a healthy recipe with oatmeal. Yay! I had never imagined I would be making khakhras one day, that too using oats. I had never tasted this Gujarati savory snack earlier until a neighboring Bengali aunt gifted us a packet last Diwali. Hubby loved these crispy snacks, which are traditionally made using whole wheat flour and besan (chickpea flour/gram flour) with a hint of jeera (cumin seeds). khakhra with oatmeal I still haven't checked the traditional Gujarati recipe, so I cannot claim what all gets into the making of khakra, which is savored with pickle or chutney. Last night, before making chapatis for dinner, I was surfing the Internet when a khakra recipe surfaced. I simply glanced over it to see how this snack is prepared. To my delight, it wasn't a tough job. So I decided to make khakhras myself, since hubby loves these. But

No Ghee Moong Dal Burfi

no butter moong dal burfi Here I come with another healthy treat. Moong dal (yellow lentil) makes a delectable halwa, ladoo, and burfi. It tastes equally great as a humble curry, which we have been savoring since childhood. However, traditionally it uses a good amount of ghee (clarified butter) to churn out moong dal halwa. But I tell you the authentic recipe of moong dal burfi/halwa is just perfect to tantalize your taste buds. Today, it was my savitri Amavasya fast. In Odisha, this fast is observed by married women for the longevity of their husbands. Traditionally, Odiya women observe this fast by praying for the long life of their hubbies before Savitri Ma, who according to folklore had brought her husband Satyavan from the clutches of death. Odiya women soak moong dal a night before and have it with coconut and sugar on the fast day. Though hubby is opposed to fasting, I do it for my mother in law, who is traditional to the core and wants her daughters in law to fa

Shallow Fried Suji Kachori With Vermicelli Stuffing

oats kachori Here's another healthy take on kachoris. After pan fried suji kachoris , it's time to get a step further and increase the amount of oats in the recipe. As a taste enhancer, I have added roasted bengal gram, and the idea works fine. The stuffing in this suji kachori is of vermicelli, instead of the typical boiled potatoes. Does the experiment disappoint? Na, not at all. This is the reason I am sharing the oats kachori with you! Oats seem to have become my go-to grain/cereal when it comes to doing food experiments. Why not! This healthiest, fiber-rich cereal offers umpteen health benefits, from being a rich source of dietary fiber to being an appetite-suppressant that immediately creates a feeling of full. Other oats benefits include: boost immunity reduce diabetes 2 risk control appetite improve bowel movement lower bad cholesterol improve insulin sensitivity control blood pressure Do you still need more oats benefits to make this hea
