Beans Oatmeal Tikkis/Cutlets

beans tikki
Ever since I came across beans paruppu usli recipe shared by dear Chitra di, I have become a big lover of this south Indian recipe and have made it several times thereafter, with variations. Today, I had a few leftover dalia idlis since morning, so I decided to use the same for this recipe in place of the typical tuvar dal. It didn't disappoint either.

Ingredients
Boiled Beans sabzi with steamed dalia idlis- 1 cup (Here's the recipe for dalia idlis)
Oat meal- 1/2 cup
Hung curd- 2-3 tbsp
Chaat masala/ black salt
Oil for greasing tawa +1/2 tsp for frying beans
Rai (mustard seeds)
Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
1 onion
salt, haldi, red chilly powder
1 boiled potato

Procedure
beans oat tikki

  1. Let's make beans stir fry first.
  2. Boil beans in little water with salt and turmeric - 2 whistles.
  3. Drain on a sieve.
  4. Take oil in a pan. Add rai and urad dal.
  5. Let them splutter.
  6. Add chopped onion. Fry until it turns translucent.
  7. Add crumbled 4-5 idlis. I added dalia-suji idlis (I had these leftover since morning).
  8. Stir well so that the masala coats idlis.
  9. Add boiled beans, salt, red chilly powder.
  10. Mix and cover for 5-8 minutes - stirring intermittently.
  11. Done. I enjoyed this beans sabzi with steamed rice and used the leftover for tikkis - nobody can tell the cutlet recipe uses beans.
  12. For tikkis - Mix leftover beans sabzi, oatmeal, hung curd, black salt, boiled potato, and red chilly powder. Mix well. Give shape of tikki.
  13. Place on a greased tawa. Fry on medium flame.
  14. Turn off sides. When done, sprinkle, chaat masala and enjoy beans tikki  :)

PS: You can make tikkis with beans aloo sabzi that is widely popular in Punjab. Just add oatmeal and hung curd to the sabzi, mix and mash well, and fry on a tawa. Enjoy!
