Easy Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookie Recipe


The very word choco chip cookies will make any kid crazy, isn't it? Your bundles of joy are no exception either. You are always looking for a healthy cookie recipe for kids or for that matter everyone in the family.

Well, substitute chocos with choco chips to delight the kid in you. This batch of healthy cookies with whole wheat flour is a breeze to process. Just a few ingredients and you are done!

I made just a few pieces of chocolate chip cookies, but when I tasted them I fretted having made a few.

This is my take on choco chip cookies - a kid-friendly recipe!

The crunch that chocos lend to this oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe takes it to another level.
With fiber loaded oatmeal and nutrient-rich whole wheat flour, the oatmeal cookie without butter recipe demands attention. Involve kids in the recipe, and they would never reject this batch!

I have adapted this recipe from my MCvities digestive recipe and tried to make the kid's favorite chocolate chip cookies healthier.


Chocolate chip oatmeal cookie ingredients

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered oats
1/4 cup- dry milk powder
2 tbsp - clarified butter (desi ghee)
2 tbsp- olive oil
1 tbsp milk (if needed)
3 tbsp- jaggery -gur (powdered) - more or less depending on your sugar preference
3/4 tsp- baking soda
1/4 tsp- baking powder
1/2 cup choco chips/ chocos -if you are taking chocos, then break them into small pieces with hands or knife

How to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe
These are not chewy choco chip cookies with oatmeal. Rather, this makes a crunchy batch of cookies with chocolate chips.
  1. Sieve baking powder, baking soda, and wheat flour.
  2. Add dry milk powder. Mix well.
  3. Mix clarified butter and olive oil and whisk both. 
  4. Add jaggery powder and whisk again until jaggery dissolves. 
  5. Mix the wet and dry ingredients. 
  6. Rub with hands until the ingredients combine into a dough.
  7. Add 1-2 tbsp of milk to make a smooth dough - should not be too soft, nor too tight.
  8. Add choco chips and try to bind everything together.
  9. Preheat the oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes.
  10. Roll out like a thick chapati and cut desired shapes. Or you may make lime-sized balls and press them with palm.
  11. Grease a baking tray.
  12. Bake the eggless wheat choco chip cookies at 180 degrees for 16-18 minutes. (I baked in Microwave convection mode)
  13. Remove the cookies from the oven immediately.  
  14. Allow them to cool on a cooling rack. Store in an air tight container upon cooling completely.
  15. Delight your kids with a kid-friendly cookie recipe that uses their favorite chocos or choco chips.
