Why is Stress Bad | The Stress- Obesity Connection| Mood and Food Link Unlocked

Stress eating?

stress is bad: food and mood connetion

Stress = obesity =  body becomes vulnerable to disease = lower immunity cancer
How stress makes you fat?

Chronic stress = disrupted sleep = sleepless nights

High levels of stress hormones = increase in blood sugar = higher risk of diabetes

High blood sugar levels in the body = more hunger pangs and increased sweet and fat cravings

Food cravings = comfort eating

comfort eating = guilty indulgence

guilty eating = obesity and increased stress

A recent study conducted by researchers at London's King's College reveals that sleep-deprived people consume more calories than others who sleep better. The sleep-deprived are more likely to consume 385kcal extra per day.

Good Food Is Good Mood

Junk Food = Bad Mood

Animal Food = Depression

Your diet could be the reason behind your stress, anxiety, and frustration.
If you are used to indulging in guilty eating and your diet lacks a good serving of fruits and vegetables, you might experience short-term happiness from the yum food, but might suffer from long-term psychological and mental health effects.
Bad mood, irritation, and stress are the side effects of a bad diet.
Do not believe my words?

A study published in 2014 in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity highlights the role of bad diet in triggering depression. The Nurses' Health study finds a connection between depression and a sugar-laden diet comprising processed bakes, refined flours, and red meat.

Arachidonic acid in animal food tends to raise the levels of monoamine oxidase, which has an opposite effect on neurotransmitters and breaks them down. When the level of serotonin (a neurotransmitter) comes down, you tend to experience mood swings.

Immunity and Stress and Hormonal Imbalance

Your immune system is designed to fight disease, right? What is the immune system comprised of that makes it your body's watchdog and security guard?

Well, it is a collection of infection-fighting cells and chemicals. Unfortunately, hormonal disturbance could severely affect your immune response and triggering an autoimmune disorder. As a result, the immune system backfires and mistakenly starts attacking its own tissues.

The human body was made to fight stress- remember the flight or fight response?
But today, stress has become a part of life - far too common that your body is forced to produce a lot of cortisol hormone to fight the increased stress. Gradually the body becomes resistant to cortisol and stress overpowers - resulting in anxiety, low blood pressure, trouble standing, dizziness, are far too common symptoms of a stressed body.

High cortisol results in depletion of progesterone while the levels of artificial estrogen rise in the body.

Thyroid hormones are involved in the break down of cholesterol in your body. When there is an imbalance in your thyroid hormones, all hormones in your body are affected, resulting in hormonal fluctuation and imbalance.

As a result of low thyroid hormone, you are more likely to experience high cholesterol and triglycerides, which a normal thyroid tends to break down.

Research reveals that too much thyroid hormone, on the other hand, could pose a high risk of breast cancer.  When your body produces a lot of thyroxine, the condition is known as overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism.
Contrarily, when the thyroid gland does not produce as much thyroid hormone as needed by the body for its proper functioning, the condition is referred to as hypothyroidism or underactive thryoid.

Recipe of Disease

There is a simple recipe to a diseased body. You need only a few ingredients:

  • unhealthy food /unclean eating habits
  • lethargic /inactive lifestyle
  • an overload of stress

Welcome to the world of disease!

Is Fermented Rice Healthy? How Do You Ferment Rice [Odisha's Pakhala Bhaat Recipe]

What is the meaning Pakhala bhaat? Is Pakhala good for health? Is fermented rice healthy?  Or in other words, does curd rice have b12? These are some of the questions that have been asked every now and then. So in this video from the Odia cuisine, I present to you Odisha special Pakhala - the ancient Odia tradition of fermenting rice. Now coming back to making Pakhala at home. I dedicate this video to my mother-in-law, who has taught me some simple ways to ferment rice with and without curd.  The idea is to cook rice in water, primarily you will need to boil rice in a lot of water. Drain off excess water and let the rice come to room temperature. Then mix it with curd, salt, and water and store in an earthen clay pot. Since we want to ferment rice, the idea is to leave it overnight at room temperature - ideally in a cool location, which is not too hot.  By next morning, the rice should have fermented - teeming with colonies of healthy bacteria. If you use brown rice...
