Eggless Whole Wheat Orange Cake in Cooker No Sugar

Wondering how to make cake from wheat flour? Well, I tried this eggless whole wheat cake on New Year. The wheat cake turned out soft & yummy.

Taking my healthy cooking spree further, this whole wheat cake without sugar comes as a reward for my efforts toward healthy eating. On top of it, this atta orange cake, as its name suggests, is bursting with the aroma of orange, from the addition of orange juice and zest.

Of course, I never say baked goodies, such as cookies and cakes, are healthy. But yes, when you want to indulge in these goodies, why not choose healthier ingredients to raise their health quotient?



So I always choose whole grains for my recipes, with no place for refined white flour or maida.

Orange Atta Cake Ingredients

1 cup- wheat flour
1/4 cup- besan
1 tbsp- roasted semolina (suji)
2 tbsp- oatmeal (powdered oats)
1/4 cup-milk powder
1/2 tsp- baking powder
1/4 tsp-baking soda
3/4 cup-curd/yogurt
1/2 cup- milk +1/4 cup orange juice
3 tbsp - gur (jaggery) - you may add sugar as per your taste (more or less as per your taste)
1/4 tsp each- elaichi (cardamom), cinnamon (dalchini), nutmeg (jaiphal)
1 tsp-orange zest (grated orange skin)
1/4 cup- oil or butter (I used olive oil)
Almonds- 5-6

How to make orange cake from wheat flour procedure

  1. Sieve wheat flour, oatmeal, besan, suji, baking soda, and baking powder.
  2. Mix curd, milk, orange juice, orange zest along with oil. 
  3. Add gur, elaichi, dalchini, and/or jaiphal to the wet ingredients. Whisk well.
  4. Grease a baking pan and sprinkle some dry atta. This will ensure that the cake does not stick to the bottom. Also, add salt/sand to a cooker/deep bottomed vessel and place a stand in it. Keep on high flame.
  5. You may cook directly in a cooker without placing sand or salt. Directly place the cake tin in the cooker and cover with a lid (without whistle).
  6. Make a well in dry ingredients. Pour wet ingredients little by little.
  7. Fold and do not over mix.The batter will be like sticky loose dough. 
  8. Pour the dough into the pan.
  9. Place the baking pan on the stand and heat on a low flame for 40-50 minutes. You may grate almonds over the dough if you want. 
  10. Keep checking intermittently.
  11. When done, take out the cake on a cooling rack.
For baking in microwave (convection-only mode), preheat at 180 degrees for 10 minutes. Bake at 170 degrees for 20 mins and then at 160 degrees for 10mts -more or less, depending on your oven settings.

This simple cooker cake recipe using whole wheat is a keeper. Try it out and enjoy healthy desserts like never before.
