oats manchurian I have been in love with the spicy Manchurian balls ever since I tasted them for the first time. I relish Manchurian with plain rice. This time I decided to give a healthy twist to my favorite manchurian balls by substituting maida with oats and frying these in paniyaram pan. I rarely deep fry anything. The result did not disappoint - at least I am happy I have a healthier Manchurian recipe now. Ingredients for oats manchurian balls oats manchurian in appe pan 1 cup - grated cabbage  1/2 cup - grated carrot 3 tbsp- oat meal (oats powder) 1/2 tsp- black pepper 1 tsp- Garlic paste 1 tbsp- curd Salt to taste Mix all ingredients and make small balls. Grease an appe pan. Put balls in each of the wells. Put on medium flame.  Cover the paniyaram pan. Keep checking at regular intervals - after 3-4 minutes. Change sides of the balls.

Besan Paneer Peda

besan peda We all love besan ladoos and burfi. After having made different types of ladoo and burfis with besan, this time I have tried using paneer (cheese) to make besan (gram flour) ladoos or pedas. Ingredients 1 cup- besan 1/2 cup- paneer/khoya 3 tbsp - rice flour 2 tbsp-sugar (as per taste) - I added 2 tbsp melted jaggery (gur) as well green cardamom/elaichi 2 tbsp- ghee (clarified butter) Almonds or any other nuts 2 tbsp - milk Take milk in a pan and add rice flour. Add crumbled paneer and switch on the flame. Heat on low flame and keep stirring Add sugar and mix well. Add elaichi. Meanwhile take another pan and add ghee. Roast besan (preferably thick besan)on low flame. Keep aside. Now add paneer mixture into the roasted besan. Keep stirring. Add gur and stir very well. Switch off the flame when done. Roll out into small balls and flatten them with your palm. Delicious besan paneer pedas are ready.

Wheat Custard Cookies: Perfect Christmas Gift

I am not fond of custard, unlike hubby who loves it. Nevertheless, while browsing through a food group, I came across Soniya Saluja's whole wheat custard cookie recipe . The cookie clicks tempted me into trying out the recipe myself. Here's the recipe: 1 cup - wheat flour 1/4 cup - custard powder 3 tbsp- powdered sugar (as per taste) 1/4 cup - olive oil (or any vegetable oil) 2 tbsp -milk 1/4 tsp - baking soda 1/4 tsp- baking powder Cardamom/cinnamon (or any essence of your choice) pinch of salt Custard cookie procedure: Preheat oven (mw convection) at 180 degrees for 10 mins. Sieve wheat, custard, baking soda, and baking powder. Add sugar. Next, add cardamom or cinnamon. Now add oil and mix well. Add milk if the dough feels dry. Roll out into small lemon-size balls and press them gently with your palm. Use a fork or knife to make design on the cookies. Grease a baking tray. Place cookies at a distance from each other. Kuttu/Buckwheat snacks 3/4 cup- kuttu atta/vrat ka atta (Buckwheat flour) 1/4 cup- besan (gram flour/roasted chickpea flour) 1/2 tbsp- oats (optional) 2 tbsp- olive oil (or any vegetable oil) 4-5 tbsp- cold water 1/2 tsp-sesame seeds 1 tsp- flax seed powder (roasted) red chilly powder salt as per taste 1/4 tsp- kasoori methi (powdered with hand)/ dried fenugreek leaves 1 tsp- cumin seeds 2 pinches- carom seeds (ajwain) 1/4 tsp- baking soda Procedure Preheat oven at 180 degrees for 6 mins.
