Besan Paneer Peda

We all love besan ladoos and burfi. After having made different types of ladoo and burfis with besan, this time I have tried using paneer (cheese) to make besan (gram flour) ladoos or pedas.

Ingredients

1 cup- besan
1/2 cup- paneer/khoya
3 tbsp - rice flour
2 tbsp-sugar (as per taste) - I added 2 tbsp melted jaggery (gur) as well
green cardamom/elaichi
2 tbsp- ghee (clarified butter)
Almonds or any other nuts
2 tbsp - milk


  1. Take milk in a pan and add rice flour.
  2. Add crumbled paneer and switch on the flame.
  3. Heat on low flame and keep stirring
  4. Add sugar and mix well.
  5. Add elaichi.
  6. Meanwhile take another pan and add ghee.
  7. Roast besan (preferably thick besan)on low flame.
  8. Keep aside.
  9. Now add paneer mixture into the roasted besan.
  10. Keep stirring.
  11. Add gur and stir very well.
  12. Switch off the flame when done.
  13. Roll out into small balls and flatten them with your palm.
  14. Delicious besan paneer pedas are ready.

So in this video from the Odia cuisine, I present to you Odisha special Pakhala - the ancient Odia tradition of fermenting rice. Now coming back to making Pakhala at home. I dedicate this video to my mother-in-law, who has taught me some simple ways to ferment rice with and without curd.  The idea is to cook rice in water, primarily you will need to boil rice in a lot of water. Drain off excess water and let the rice come to room temperature. Then mix it with curd, salt, and water and store in an earthen clay pot.
