With the market flooded with unhealthy stuff, it is understood that you worry about the intake of your kids. More so, when unhealthy diets cause all sorts of health issues. The incidence of diabetes milletus is rising in kids, which raises alarm bells for parents to guide their children to start taking healthy food.
Unfortunately, it is a misperception that healthy food doesn't taste good. This blog is all about health, say healthy lifestyle, healthy eating, and fitness. You won;t find one healthy recipe that tastes bland. Morever, it is up to you as a parent to guide your children to choose healthy food. Fussy eaters or not!
You have got to train tiny tots to learn to eat healthy stuff - from cookies to cakes, from snacks to savories, from greens to vegetables, from desserts to meals.
Some kids develop lactose intolerant as infants if parents start to feed them "outside" milk below the age of one. Such children often get allergic to milk and dairy products for a lifetime. This means they cannot enjoy the goodness of milk and milk products.
Nevertheless, I have come up with a recipe for lactose intolerant kids and elders alike. This healthy cookie recipe
- does not use dairy
- is enriched with fiber from oats
- is loaded with nut butter
- has a good presence of walnuts
- does not use refined flour/maida/white flour/all-purpose flour
- lacks refined sugar
- does not have even a pinch of raising agents - yes, it is naturally soft

How to make a kid-friendly cookie recipe?
Here is the video recipe of almond butter cookies - a kid-friendly recipe (unedited video, as I do not have enough time to edit the same.please bear with me)
Roasted almonds, cooled them, and then ground them to powder - added 1/2 tsp of oil and then churned more to get paste-like consistency. That's it - you have got almond butter prepared at home. It's that easy. On top of it, almond butter tastes like chocolate - though I do not eat nor like chocolatty flavor. But I somehow like almond butter - well, you have got it right - because it is healthier than normal butter.
Anyway, so when I made almond butter, I tried nana icecream with it - a blend of frozen bananas and almond butter - sprinkle little cinnamon and you have got one of the easiest, chocolatty flavored ice creams!
Since then I have been keen to use almond butter extensively - though I have tried just a couple of recipes with it, besides nana ice cream - almond butter oats ice cream and almond butter cake.
So it was high time I tried my favorite cookies using almond butter - so today was the day. Did the experiment disappoint? Of course not - because had it failed, I would not have shared it with you all! It's as simple as that!
Here's my simple almond butter cookie recipes:
4 tbsp- homemade almond butter
3/4 cup- oats (better to dry roast oats and grind them to powder)
1/4 cup- wheat flour
4 tsp- jaggery powder (increase as per your sweet intake..I like it less sweet ..you may substitute with sugar powder)
1-2 tsp-milk ( if the dough feels dry -- I added)
walnuts or nuts of your choice - almonds, pistachios
Spice mix- I added tea powder; you may use cardamom, cinnamon or any other flavoring agent
3/4 tsp- baking soda (optional) - I didn't add - still my cookies turned out soft, but feel free to add if you want them softer
How To Make Oatmeal Delicious

- Mix dry ingredients - whole wheat flour and oats powder.
- Add them to the grinder or food processor.
- Next throw in almond butter and jaggery powder.
- Take out the mixture in a wide bowl or plate.
- If the dough feels dry, add milk for binding. I added 1/2 tsp of oat milk, but you can skip and add milk instead.
- It should be a semi-soft dough - not too soft, nor too hard.
- Give the shape of a log or balls and cover in a butter paper/parchment paper/aluminum foil.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour or longer. I kept it overnight.
- Preheat the oven (microwave convection) at 180 degrees. I air fried one batch and baked the other one.
- Take out the dough from the fridge.
- Cut into desired shapes - keep them thin but not too thin, as there is a risk of burning. Almond butter tends to burn fast. These cookies bake quickly. I cut them into 3 shapes - round, teddy bears, and rectangular.
- Place cookies on a baking tray at an even distance.
- Bake at 180 degrees for 10-12 minutes or longer (depending on your oven settings). I air fried them at 180 degrees for 12 minutes. Please keep an eye on the cookies after 8 mts.
- Enjoy no sugar, no butter eggless whole wheat oatmeal cookies with a hot cup of tea/coffee/ milk.
